Employees should wear black or tan shorts, skirts, pants, or capris. These items should fit appropriately; when wearing leggings, shirts should be finger-tip length. Solid black leggings might also be worn. Casual Friday: Blue Jeans may be worn in-lieu of black or tan bottoms; however, they must be clean, free of rips, tears, fraying and appropriate fitting. Tie-dye shirts are allowed on Fridays, as well. Shoes must be non-skid and comfortable: Gym shoes or closed-toed sandals. Staff are asked to not wear snow boots in the building in winter months. |
Can I wear a shirt that is not issued by the Y? | Staff may wear a branded, solid-colored YMCA shirt (not Y event shirts), sweatshirt, hoodie or zip-front jacket, or a long-sleeved black or white base layer under the issued shirt. Shirts, sweatshirts or sweaters that are not YMCA-branded are not allowed as a part of dress code at any time. |

The Valparaiso YMCA prides itself on employing staff who are dedicated to our community and our members. Each month department managers are provided with the opportunity to nominate outstanding staff to be recognized as Cause Driven Leaders for their positive behaviors toward members or displaying helpfulness toward their department. Staff awarded with the honor of Cause Driven Leader are showcased in the Y’s newsletter. Cause Driven Leader nominations and positive employee stories can be emailed to the Y’s Human Resource department at any time.
The YMCA values their employees' suggestions and concerns. We encourage communication between employee and supervisor at all times and additional feedback can be emailed to the Y’s Human Resource department at any time.
