Membership Category Types

2 ADULT HOUSEHOLD
Two adults, plus dependents under the age of 24. All members of a Household unit must live at the same address.

1 ADULT HOUSEHOLD
One adult, plus dependents under the age of 24. All members of a 1 Adult Household must live at the same address.

2 SENIOR ADULT
Two senior adults, ages 65+. Both members of a Senior Household must live at the same address. Senior Households have the added benefit of up to 3 months of a Membership Hold each year for travel to a secondary home location.

EXTENDED HOUSEHOLD BENEFIT
Adult and Household draft memberships have the option of adding extended household members (definition: additional adults living in the same household) onto their monthly draft membership for a fee of $24 per person per month. Extended household members must provide same-address verification in the form of a valid drivers license or two pieces of official mail such as; a bill, insurance correspondence, or school transcripts. Primary member is responsible for this added fee and must notify the YMCA of any household changes. Only the primary member can make additions, changes, or cancellations to membership.

THIRD-PARTY INSURANCE MEMBERSHIPS
The Valparaiso Family YMCA proudly accepts third-party membership benefits through the following programs:

To find out if you qualify for one of the above third-party insurance memberships, please contact your insurance provider directy to inquire about eligibility. If you qualify, please bring your insurance card, number code and photo ID with you to the Y so we can help you set up your complimentary membership!

*Membership Eligibility Policy*
Any person who supports the YMCA purpose & values and that continues to live them in their lives may become a member of this corporation in accordance with such provisions as may be established by the Board of Directors. A membership may continue unless the Board of Directors or its authorized agent concludes, in its sole discretion, that a member should be terminated, or if a member or YMCA user is listed on the Registered Sex Offenders listing. They may be immediately denied membership and access to the facility. 

YMCA memberships are open to all people without regard to race, creed, color, religion, national origin, age or sex.

If you decide you want to Join after purchasing a Daily Pass (within 30 days), we will apply up to (3) daily pass fees toward your Joiner's Fee! All Daily Pass visitors must present a valid Photo ID for purchase and sign a Waiver of Liability, with the exception of Youth who do not yet have a Photo ID. Youth will need to have a Parent/Guardian accompany them for their first visit to sign a Waiver of Liability.

We are sorry to hear that you are looking to end your membership with us. We want you to know that if you are canceling your membership due to costs, we do offer Income-Based Scholarships to help you continue to prioritize your health & wellness. If you do want to continue pursuing membership cancelation, please be advised of the following process to complete canceling your account:

1. Cancelation requests must be submitted by the end of the month PRIOR to the cancelation month.
2. Cancelation requests must be submitted and signed for in-person at the Valparaiso Family YMCA. You are welcome to stop by anytime that we are open.
 

Membership Holds: If you are a senior over the age of 65, you qualify to put your membership on a temporary hold for up to 3 months.  Please be advised that you need to put your membership on hold prior to the 1st of the month you need your hold.  Your hold will start on the 15th of the month and will reinstate on the 14th of the returning month.

WHAT IS YMCA NATIONWIDE MEMBERSHIP?

Nationwide Membership enables you to visit any participating Y in the United States through membership at your “home” YMCA (your home location is the facility that enrolled you as a paying member and collects your membership dues). We offer this because we want to help you reach your health and wellness goals during times when you might be temporarily away from your “home” Y. We believe this is an essential part of our cause of strengthening communities.

HOW OFTEN CAN I USE ANOTHER Y THAT IS NOT MY “HOME” Y?

Whatever Y you pay your dues to is your home Y and you should spend more than 50% of your time there. (Other restrictions may apply) We recommend members check an individual Y’s website before visiting. See www.ymca.net for a complete listing of all Y's. The YMCA Nationwide Membership program is designed to allow visitors from other Y's to be occasional guests such as while vacationing, visiting family in other areas, etc.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW WHEN VISITNG THE VALPARAISO FAMILY YMCA AS A NATIONWIDE MEMBER?

Use of Valpo Y facilities:

• Indoor swimming pools, whirlpool, sauna, and steam room
• Gymnasium
• Wellness center
• Indoor track
• Individual/men’s/women’s locker rooms.

Access to Valpo Y classes and programs:

All fee-based programs such as, but not limited to, youth sports, aquatics, paid wellness classes, summer camp, childcare, dance, etc., are available to Nationwide Members at non-member rates and registration timelines.

Free group exercise class priority will be given to Valparaiso Family YMCA members.  Nationwide Members are considered non-members for all group exercise class participation.  

All visitors ages 18+ will be required to show a driver’s license or non-driver photo ID.

SilverSneakers and Renew Active members must register as Valparaiso Family YMCA members.

Childwatch is available to Nationwide Members at the current non-member rate.

Nationwide Members may not bring guests.

MY NATIONWIDE MEMBERSHIP USED TO OFFER MORE ACCESS AND SERVICES, WHAT CHANGED?

As the Valparaiso Family YMCA membership grows, our facility is becoming more congested with more waiting lists for classes and programs. Valpo Y members are finding it more difficult to access the programs and services their membership pays for. Monthly membership dues paid to the Valparaiso Family YMCA cover many costs associated with the daily operations such as facility maintenance and housekeeping, utility and overhead costs, staff wages such as group exercise instructors, lifeguards, member service desk staff, childwatch staff, etc. All these areas are expenses paid for by monthly membership dues. Nationwide Members do not contribute to these expenses as their monthly membership dues are paid to their “home” Y.

WHAT IF I WANT TO SIGN UP FOR PROGRAMS AT THE VALPARISO FAMILY YMCA AS A NATIONWIDE MEMBER?

For the purposes of program registration (i.e. swimming lessons, summer camp, child care, youth sports, group exercise classes, etc.) you are considered a non-member and would pay the corresponding non-member rates, if available.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A VALPARAISO FAMILY YMCA MEMBERSHIP?

• Free participation in Wellness Center orientations
• Access to over 40+ Free Land and Water Group Exercise Classes

WHAT IS NEEDED AS A NATIONWIDE MEMBER AT THE VALPARAISO FAMILY YMCA?

Please bring your photo ID each time you visit the Valpo Y and plan to sign a liability waiver on your first visit. If you’re under 18, a parent or guardian will need to sign the waiver for you. Guests are expected to abide by all Valparaiso Family YMCA rules, guidelines, and code of conduct while visiting our facility. Failure to do so will result in the loss of reciprocal visitation privileges. In addition, the YMCA conducts regular sex offender screenings on all members, participants, and guests. The Valpo Y reserves the right to restrict or revoke Nationwide Membership privileges for any reason. Registered sex offenders are prohibited from participating and will be denied access to our YMCA.

As a reminder, on average, at least 50% of your monthly visits to the Y must be to your “home” Y. Nationwide Membership is based on individual usage, not the overall usage of your couple or family membership.

The Valparaiso Family YMCA reserves the right to restrict a class or program at any time if space becomes limited for Valpo Y members.
